The New Basin Canal Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann:

The New Orleans Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann received its charter in late January 1986. Straight away we were sponsoring Concerts of Irish traditional musicians such as Mick Moloney, Robbie OConnell, Jimmy Keane, The Celtic Folk, Joe Burke, Terry Corcoran, and speaker Gearoid McNamara, Third Secretary to the Irish Embassy in Washington.  For the first time ever the North American Tour of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann made a stop in New Orleans. The players were:

• Mairead ni Chathasaigh - All Ireland Harp, Fiddle, Whistle and Song
• Tommy Guihan - All Ireland Flute
• Cliodhna Dempsey - Singer

It had many years of achievement before it's decline in to inactivity.
It was revitalized and renamed as the New Basin Canal Branch in October 1999.
Since it's inception, the branch has had a hand in furthering the spread of Irish culture in Southern Louisiana.
